MICHAEL S. LAMONT

Michael-S.-Lamont

Michael Lamont has litigated complex commercial and financial disputes for almost a decade. His practice includes representation of brokerage firms, financial institutions, corporations and their associated persons in courts and arbitration, and the defense of regulatory matters involving governmental agencies and self-regulatory organizations.

In recent years, Michael’s practice has involved the defense and trial of a broker/dealer and its registered representative concerning allegations of fraud, breach of duty, and violations of securities laws in connection with the purchase and sale of securities; representation of a securities clearing firm against claims stemming from conduct by the introducing broker/dealer’s registered representative; the defense of a senior executive of a payment processor in an Federal Trade Commission federal court action; defense of a public company and its chief executive officer in connection with an enforcement action brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission; defense of a multi-million dollar company in connection with a shareholder dispute; and representation of the Receiver in connection with the $350 million Ponzi scheme of Arthur Nadel.

Michael obtained an LL.M. in Securities and Financial Regulation, with distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center in May 2002. The securities program at Georgetown provided an advanced and extensive one-year study of securities and corporate law. The program addresses practical problems faced in practice and focuses the student on how to analyze the issues and determine the best solutions. While at Georgetown, Michael also interned at the Securities and Exchange Commission in the Division of Enforcement, where he gained practical experience and learned how the Commission regulates and enforces the securities laws.

Prior to forming Wiand Guerra King P.L. in November 2009, Michael was a shareholder of one of Florida’s largest and most highly regarded law firms. He recently has been recognized by Florida Trend Magazine’s Legal Elite as a “rising star.” He received a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law, where he was a moot court member, and his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida.
