Matt Mueller Publishes Article on Computing Restitution and Loss in Criminal Securities Fraud Cases
The July-August 2017 edition of the Hillsborough County Bar Association’s Lawyer magazine includes an article entitled “United States v. Stein: Government’s Sentencing Burden in Securities Fraud Cases Clarified” written by Wiand Guerra King attorney Matthew J. Mueller. The Eleventh Circuit ruled earlier this year in Stein that the government must prove reliance with direct evidence from each investor or with “specific circumstantial evidence” from which the court could reasonably conclude that all investors relied before the Court can order restitution to purported victim investors in criminal securities fraud cases.
