Chemere Ellis served as a panelist at the Southern Region National Black Law Student Association’s (SRBLSA) 52nd Regional Convention on February 2, 2023. The theme of the convention was, “The Future Is Now,” and it consisted of panel discussions and career development programming for law students.

We officially began celebrating Black History Month in the United States in 1986, when Congress passed Public Law 99-244 designating February 1986 as National Black History Month. It is as important now, as it was then, to highlight the history and contributions of African Americans because African American history is American history.

On November 1, 2005, the UN General Assembly designated January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day (“IHRD”). January 27 marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. IHRD serves two purposes: (1) to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism, and (2) to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides.
